WISKA offers solution to condensation problems in enclosures

19.01.2010, Kaltenkirchen - Consistenly, electronic housings, sensors and other electric devices are affected by breakdowns caused by condensation water – despite high protection degrees, ensuring among others, safe protection against water. But the reason for these breakdowns lies in the enclosure itself: While the enclosure is liquid-tight it still allows for air interchange so that water vapour still can penetrate the housing as soon as there is a pressure difference between the casing´s interior and the surroundings. This is mostly caused by fast temperature changes, for example, rain, wave action or by driving into a tunnel – due to low pressure in the housing, damp air is absorbed, it condenses and the resulting water leads to corrosion, electrical short circuits and breakdown of the device.
VentGLAND of WISKA is a cable gland with an integrated ePTFE Gore membrane which literally lets the casing breathe and doing so, equalizes pressure differences. Therefore, there is no more air interchange and water condensation is avoided. With the high protection degree of IP69K, VentGLAND offers protection against dust and water and condensation at the same time. Due to identical sizes and construction, compared to a standard cable gland, VentGLAND can easily replace the formerly used without any further installation, drilling or further components. The worldwide unique breathing cable gland is used daily in exterior lighting, weather stations or electronic sensors and by its patented mode of operation provides a maximum of safety. www.wiska.de

WISKA presents new cable glands for special applications

29.04.2009, Kaltenkirchen - Within its SPRINT cable gland system, WISKA presented new cable glands for special applications at Hannovermesse.

One of the attractive WISKA highlights is the breathing VentGLAND which due to an integrated Gore membrane reduces condensation water to a minimum. Now, its new polyamide versions in M25 and M32 also serve bigger enclosures. Doing so, it does not need any further components or installations. In terms of larger cable diameters, WISKA expands its portfolio of metal cable glands by the size of M75 which, according to an official manufacturer´s declaration, will be very helpful for industries such as wind energy or shipbuilding. Also for hazardous areas and low temperatures until -60°C, WISKA now offers even more products: All cable glands of polyamide and brass until -60°C are now available as explosion-proof versions, all NPT thread versions also for low temperatures and its brass version for hazardous areas as well. Last but not least, the SPRINT System meets now also the requirements of IP69 K and is the optimum solution in terms of an efficient installation and lower storage costs. Within the over 20 years successful system, all cable glands, no matter what material, have identical clamping ranges and therefore, use a common range of sealing inserts.

Not only the new products but also the 90 years jubilee of WISKA brought many enthusiastic visitors to the company´s stand at Hannovermesse. “Our origin is shipbuilding, but already in the late 1920s, we launched the first polyamide cable gland. Since then, we have steadily expanded our portfolio and developed new products. Still today, WISKA stands for quality, farsightedness and innovation – and with our development and production in Germany, also in our third generation we are well prepared for the future.”, says Ronald Hoppmann, General Manager of WISKA.

WISKA enthuse SMM visitors

30.09.2008, Kaltenkirchen – At this year´s SMM in Hamburg, WISKA presented its latest innovations for electrical installation and lighting on cargo vessels. Doing this, the company has proven again its nearly 90 year-old know-how in shipbuilding and put special emphasis on current issues such as energy efficiency and network-controlled IT-components.

WISKA showed that the currently often-cited energy efficiency does not only apply to design, the ship´s engine and alternative drives, but also to lighting. The new WISKA floodlights, depending on their lamps, achieve a luminous efficiency of up to 120 lm/W and a lifetime to up to 60,000 hours. Lighting on board offers big potential for an intelligent energy balance: Also the new WISKA Suez Canal Searchlight and the 300 searchlight with halogen metal vapour lamp use energy efficient lamps and offer most simple handling on board and cost benefit at the same time. According to an official manufacturer’s declaration, this central theme also applies to the new searchlights control system being integrated in the future ship´s ethernet network.

Besides its products, also the new WISKA booth in hall B6 and the traditional trade fair party on Wednesday attracted lots of people – the company presented itself in a self-confident manner and showed its innovation and high quality level in stand design as well. „The SMM is the leading fair of international shipbuilding – and a tradition for WISKA. We like to get judged by our innovations every two years and once more, prove this year, that with our own R&D in Germany and our excellent service worldwide do not only serve our market but in third-generation even design it.”, says Ronald Hoppmann, General Manager of WISKA. www.wiska.de

WISKA present their latest product developments at SMM

28.08.2008, Kaltenkirchen – Again at this year’s SMM, WISKA presents its latest innovations for electrical installation and lighting solutions on cargo vessels. Doing this, WISKA puts special emphasis on the controlling of system components within the vessel IT network and energy-efficient lighting.

WISKA identifies the adaption of industry IT network structures into shipbuilding as path breaking for the future. In terms of the increasing IT-orientation on board, central installation, controlling and maintenance would facilitate work significantly. According to an official manufacturer’s declaration, by its range of searchlights and CCTV surveillance cameras, WISKA offers system components which comply with the highest IT standards and can be integrated into network structures without any difficulties.

Also the WISKA reefer container sockets consistently set new standards and convince amongst others by its minimal dimensions and its large connection space at the same time. By delivering a solution for energy-efficient on-deck lighting, WISKA focuses the prevailing issue of the raw material’s availability.

The constant product innovation as well as the long-term availability of spare parts proves again the know-how of the nearly 90-years-old company with its origin in shipbuilding.
The product portfolio is completed by the comprehensive WISKA range for electrical installation on and below deck, containing switches, sockets, junction boxes and cable glands.

At SMM, WISKA is located at a new place in hall B6 / stand 220 and again this year, invites everybody to its traditional trade fair party on Wednesday on its brand-new designed stand. www.wiska.co.uk

Electrical industry experts delighted with WISKA innovation

First integrated breathable cable gland against condensation water

16.04.2007, Kaltenkirchen – WISKA, the German manufacturer of electrical installation material, presents its latest innovation at the trade fair Hannover Messe - VentGLAND, a breathable cable gland which thanks to pressure compensation reduces condensation water in electrical environments to a minimum.

The core piece of this innovation is a breathable, micro-porous PTFE Gore membrane. Being an integrated element of the cable gland, the latter allows for a pressure balance between the internal and the external atmosphere, reducing condensation. Consequently, the new WISKA cable gland combines several features in just one component, with no additional assembly or drilling required. According to the official manufacturer’s declaration, the major cost savings and the ease of installation are clear advantages of the new VentGLAND, which meets the standards of protection degree IP 69K. Furthermore, the statement claims that the VentGLAND can be fully integrated into the WISKA SPRINT system and that it may, for instance, be used as an EMC gland with multiple and reducing sealing inserts.

VentGLAND is available in the sizes M20 to M63, and customers are able to choose from polyamide, brass or stainless steel.

WISKA General Manager Ronald Hoppmann refers to the product as an “efficient high-tech cable gland which makes previous solutions concerning the removal of condensation water obsolete“. He is convinced that VentGLAND is a product “which exceeds the high standards of the enterprise established in Hamburg in 1919.“

Nowadays, WISKA employs more than 120 staff members who develop and manufacture cable accessory, maritime lighting and electrical installation systems for customers throughout the world.
